Understanding Your Chart

Astrology is a symbolic language with thousands of years of wisdom behind it. Here is enough to understand how your reading was made — and what every symbol means.

WHAT IS ASTROLOGY

A Map of the Sky at Your Birth

At the exact moment you were born, every planet in our solar system occupied a specific position in the sky. Astrology holds that these positions — and the geometric relationships between them — form a symbolic map of your soul's blueprint.

This is not about fate or fixed destiny. Astrology is a language of tendency, potential, and invitation. Your chart describes patterns — not outcomes. You remain the author of your own story.

A natal chart is divided into three layers: the planets (what energies are at play), the signs (how those energies express themselves), and the houses (which area of life they operate in). Aspects — angles between planets — show how those energies interact.

Your Sun sign is just the beginning. A complete chart contains dozens of placements, each adding nuance to the portrait.

Aspects are the geometric angles formed between planets in your chart. They reveal how the different energies interact — whether they support each other, create tension, or operate in completely different registers.

☌ CONJUNCTION (0°)
Fusion and intensity. Two planets at the same degree — their energies merge completely. The most powerful aspect. Can be extraordinarily harmonious or overwhelming depending on the planets involved.
△ TRINE (120°)
Natural harmony and ease. The most flowing aspect — planets in trine support each other effortlessly. These are your natural gifts, the things that come easily. Sometimes too easily — trines can lead to taking gifts for granted.
⚹ SEXTILE (60°)
Opportunity and potential. A harmonious angle that requires activation — like a door that is open but you must choose to walk through. Shows where talent becomes skill through effort.
☍ OPPOSITION (180°)
Tension and awareness. Two planets face each other across the chart — pulling in opposite directions. Creates awareness through friction, and integration through the willingness to hold both truths simultaneously.
□ SQUARE (90°)
Challenge and growth. The most demanding aspect — two planets in friction. Squares create the tension that drives growth. Where you work hardest, and often where you achieve the most.
⚻ QUINCUNX (150°)
Adjustment and refinement. An awkward angle between planets with nothing in common. Requires constant adjustment — creates a subtle but persistent creative tension that never fully resolves.
Do I need to know my exact birth time? +

Your birth time determines your Rising sign (Ascendant) and the house placements of every planet. These are significant — they shape how your chart expresses itself in the specific areas of your life. If you don't know your exact time, use 12:00 noon as a default. Your Sun and Moon signs and most major aspects will still be accurate, but your Rising sign and houses may differ. For maximum accuracy, check your birth certificate or ask a family member.

What is the difference between a Sun sign and a natal chart? +

Your Sun sign — Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and so on — is determined by which sign the Sun was in when you were born. It is one placement out of dozens. A full natal chart includes all ten planets, the Ascendant, Midheaven, twelve house cusps, and the aspects between them. Your Sun sign describes one dimension of who you are. Your full chart describes all of them.

Is astrology a science? +

Astrology is not a science in the empirical sense — it cannot be reliably tested using the scientific method. It is better understood as a symbolic language: a system that uses the positions of celestial bodies as a map for understanding patterns in human experience. People have found it meaningful and useful for thousands of years. Whether you approach it as spiritual practice, psychological tool, or poetic framework, what matters is whether it offers genuine insight into your life. Many people find that it does.

Does my chart determine my fate? +

No. Your natal chart describes tendencies, patterns, and potentials — not fixed outcomes. Think of it as a map of the terrain, not a script for the story. Two people with identical charts (extremely rare, but theoretically possible) would still live completely different lives based on their choices, circumstances, and how consciously they engage with their patterns. Astrology illuminates. You decide.

How accurate will my reading be? +

The accuracy of your reading depends on the accuracy of your birth data — especially your birth time. With a precise birth time and place, your chart is calculated exactly. The interpretation then depends on the quality and depth of the reading itself. Our readings are crafted to be highly specific to your actual planetary positions, not generic descriptions of your Sun sign. Many people find them remarkably precise — particularly in the sections on relationship patterns, career, and emotional tendencies.

What language will my reading be in? +

You can receive your reading in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Select your preferred language on the reading form. The entire reading — every section, every piece of guidance — will be written in your chosen language.
